Inspiring Renovation, Old Barn Turned into Modern Barn by Shed

We love the rustic wood in this old barn which has already been turn into a modern barn home. The rustic offers luxury living in this barn house design and this barn house creates harmonious combination with the natural elements in the surrounding. With a swag of attractive modern barn design on offer, this barn house still offers the traditional shape of a barn. This barn house was made by Shed.
This barn housing project was turned into a living space that could support many activities and guests. Shed designed and built this barn without destroying the whole taste of how a barn like, but they added substantial elements and added modern interior design in this so country home design. According to Shed “The familiarity with the site, building and client resulted in substantive refinements to the permitted plans that capitalized on unexpected potential as well as the execution of numerous details responsive to existing conditions.”
It’s a real tough challenge at this remodeled barn which was a barn without having to leave from the barn feel. The architecture solution was then to imbue each space with its own character through the use of natural light and its orientation to the landscape.
Here’s more from the architects: “The primary design interventions were the creation of a utility pass-thru separating the bunk room from the main work space, and the carved entry connecting the apartment to the workroom. Secondary design interventions include the addition of skylights, dormers and bay windows that developed the relationship of interior spaces to the pastoral landscape. Each space was developed around a minimal palette of materials and color, with extensive re-use of existing barn materials. Some of these materials included the re-use of the original barn siding for interior paneling, re-milling of salvaged floor joists for stair material, trim and countertops. In a very real way, the barn was turned outside in and then wrapped in a new cedar board and batten skin that would weather and show its age well. Emphasis was placed on durability and directness of design solutions with the aim of creating practical and unique results. Re-use of salvaged cedar siding for interior wall surfaces, salvaged wood beams milled for countertops/benches and salvaged plumbing fixtures re-used are just a few of the recycling solutions found.”
